Heritage Week 2026

The Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Project is delighted to once again take part in National Heritage Week by opening our restoration site to the public for a free Open Day.
Join us on Sunday 23 August 2026, from 12.30pm to 3.00pm, at the Public Boatyard, Coal Harbour, Dún Laoghaire, and discover the fascinating story of the historic Dunleary Lifeboat and the volunteers working to preserve her for future generations.
Throughout the afternoon, our volunteers will be on hand to share the remarkable history of the Dunleary, explain the restoration work completed to date, and answer your questions about one of Ireland’s most important surviving historic lifeboats.
Visitors can enjoy:
- On demand guided tours
- Restoration stories from the project team
- Historical information boards
- Authentic artefacts and original equipment
- A family friendly atmosphere
Please note that the lifeboat will not be open for boarding, as restoration work is ongoing.
Whether you have an interest in maritime history, engineering, restoration, or simply want to learn more about an important part of Dún Laoghaire’s heritage, we’d love to welcome you.
