Dunleary Lifeboat Project

Heritage Council Grant 2026 awarded for the next phase of the Dunleary's restoration

We are delighted to announce that the Dunleary Heritage Project has once again been awarded funding under The Heritage Council’s Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2026.

This year’s grant will assist with the next phase of restoring the Dunleary. Funding will support the costs of making the forward and aft cabins completely watertight, including repairs and sealing of the forward and aft decks. We will also be replacing the port and starboard gunwales and rebuilding the engine casing.

With the majority of the vessel’s ribs now replaced, the new gunwales can be fitted, while the reconstructed engine casing will be built in keeping with the original boat builders’ plans. Reinstating the gunwales and the forward and aft bulkheads will further strengthen the vessel and bring us another step closer to relocating the Dunleary to a more accessible display location within Dún Laoghaire Harbour.

We would like to thank The Heritage Council for its continued support in helping to preserve this important part of Dún Laoghaire’s maritime heritage.
